ENTREE EN LICE

Maintenant que le jeu est commencé
j'entends ma voix qui dit le texte
le timbre de ma voix
des cordes et des hautbois
générateurs de sons
de grognements
d'un monde de musique.
Je crie
je sens battre en moi
mon coeur
mon sexe
palpitations
érections
gigantesques
sinus caverneux
turgescents
projection de sperme
ou de mots
compacts comme des pierres
de taille
livrant ma bataille.
Je bouge mes mains
mes bras
alourdis de rêves
et de mémoire
cerveau poumons
humbles ou bourgeois
tous réduits
à la dépendance de leurs nourrices artérielles
je relève la tête
encombrée de labyrinthes
de circulation tortueuse
l'amour la haine
la mort de mes amours mortes
proches,
derrière la porte
peut-être au pied de cette marche
du décor
de cet escalier en spirale
surgi depuis quand
fantôme des brumes
pour l'essor
de mon corps.

ENTERING THE LISTS

Now that the acting has begun
I hear my voice saying the text
the timbre of my voice
of the cords and of the oboes
generators of sounds
of grunts
of a world of music
I shout
I feel beating in me
my heart
my sex
palpitations
erections
gigantic
cavernous sinuses
surging
projection of sperm
or of words
compact like freestones
giving my battle.
I move my hands
my arms
heavy with dreams
and with memory
brain lungs

humble or bourgeois

all reduced
to dependence on their arterial wet nurses
I lift up my head
crowded with labyrinths
or tortuous circulation
love hate
the death of my dead loves
close by, there
behind the door
maybe at the foot of this step
of the setting
of this spiral staircase
emerged since when
ghost of the mists
for the soaring
of my body.

Biodrame was written by the poet and doctor Serge Béhar
for Roy Hart to perform at the Théâtre des Nations festival,
organised by Jean-Louis Barrault in Paris in April 1972.
